Side Sleeper? 7 Reasons This Butterfly-Shaped Pillow Is Built Different

Most pillows are a rectangle. You sink into the middle, your shoulder ends up under your head, and you spend the night rearranging it. The Derila Ergo takes a different shape entirely. Here is what makes it different, what it costs right now, and how returns work.

1It's shaped like a butterfly, on purpose

Four raised wings at the corners, a pinched waist on each side and a hollow in the middle. The maker built that shape to cradle your neck and leave room for your shoulder and arm, instead of handing you one flat slab to fold and punch into place.

2Your shoulder gets its own space

On your side, a regular pillow sits right where your shoulder wants to go. Here, the narrow waist is cut to leave that space open, so your arm has somewhere to go besides under your head.

3It's made for back sleepers too

Roll over and your head settles into the centre hollow. The maker made it for side and back sleepers.

4It's built around alignment

The maker says the contour is designed to support your neck and help keep your head, neck and spine in line while you sleep. The wings and the hollow are there for that.

5Memory foam, with a cooling, breathable design

It's a memory-foam pillow. The maker's page lists a "cooling effect", a "breathable design" and "advanced cooling technology" among its features.

6It's a neck pillow, not a giant one

It measures about 21 by 14 inches (54 by 36 cm), smaller than a standard bed pillow (about 20 by 26). It's worth knowing the size before it arrives.
